We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:
Job Title: Senior Ventilation Officer
Profile
1. Purpose of Role
-The Senior Ventilation Officer is responsible for the maintenance of ventilation, refrigeration, and occupational hygiene systems and to provide the Section Ventilation Officer (D1) with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. The Senior Ventilation Officer will have a more hands-on approach to the underground and surface ventilation and occupational hygiene systems.
2. Work of Role
-Achieving legal compliance
-Ensures adherence to legal compliance through auditing, monitoring, and reporting
-Responsible to ensure that policies, programmes, standards, codes of practice and procedures are maintained in accordance with legal requirements
-Statutory plans are in place and up to date (ventilation plans and mine rescue plans)
-Maintain ventilation and occupational hygiene strategies and systems
-Measure compliance to Sections 5.1(1), 9.2(2), 16.1(1) (MHSA) and chapter 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (occupational health risk assessment and monitoring)
-Measure compliance with the Ventilation Engineering and Occupational hygiene regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at the business area level
-Ensure that ventilation and occupational hygiene programs are properly administered
-Assist in the implementation and maintenance of emergency preparedness programs
-Report and advice on ventilation and occupational hygiene matters
-Provide solutions to specific ventilation and occupational hygiene matters (known or identified via trend analysis)
-Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits
-Conducts daily ventilation and occupational hygiene inspections and records findings
-Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions
-Management of resources and assets
-Contribute to the achievement of the objectives and targets of the ventilation and occupational hygiene department and those of the business area
3. Qualifications
-Grade 12
-Practical Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
-Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
-Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control – Advantageous
-Member of the Mine Ventilation Society – Advantageous
-Background in Occupational Hygiene Legislation and Requirements – Advantageous
4. Experience
-Minimum of 5 years experience in the ventilation and occupational hygiene field
5. Knowledge and Skills
-Valid driver’s license
-Computer literate in MS Office, MicroStation, and other specialized technical programs
