Showmax is an internet-based subscription video-on-demand service that allows you to watch TV shows and movies. There are international content as well as localized content. Officially launched in 2015.

You can access thousands of hours of local and international movies and series, with a wide range of devices from smart TVs and computers to smartphones and tablets.

Showmax is available on multiple devices (5 devices) so you can enjoy the best entertainment at home or on the move. There are different plans and subscriptions.

Showmax in Africa

Showmax is available across almost 45 African countries and territories. These countries are Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, and Equatorial Guinea. Others include Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Reunion, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The Showmax is available as a monthly subscription after a 14-day trial period and pricing varies by country. Pricing is available in different currencies.

Before you subscribe to any service of any kind, you are required to know the price and cost of that service. Showmax has both “Standard Plan, Mobile-Only Plan, Showmax Pro Plan and Mobile-Only Pro Plan”.

Showmax Pro

• Showmax Pro is a new service available for Showmax subscribers in Africa that bundles the existing Showmax entertainment offering with music channels, news and live sports streaming from SuperSport.
  Live sport featured on Showmax Pro includes all Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, and PSL games as well as a wide range of live sports events including athletics, professional boxing, and the world’s biggest marathons. Available sports differ between countries. When your live match is over, enjoy magazine shows, sports documentaries and recent sporting highlights.
  Showmax Pro also includes a selection of live news channels, such as SABC News (South Africa only), Euro News, Africa News and Newzroom Africa.

Showmax Mobile and Showmax Pro Mobile

• Showmax Mobile and Showmax Pro Mobile are perfect if you prefer to stream Showmax on one mobile device (smartphone or tablet). You get the same great content at around half the price.

Where to Watch Showmax

Showmax can be enjoyed across TVs, smartphones or tablets through their native apps across various app store. Here’s a list of all the devices you can watch Showmax on.

• Note that if you have a Showmax Mobile or Showmax Pro Mobile subscription, you will only be able to watch Showmax on one mobile device. 
• Live streaming on Showmax Pro is not supported on all devices.

Showmax is available on these devices:

• Apple and Android smartphones and tablets using the Showmax app.
• Laptops and computers through your web browser.
• Google Chromecast and Apple TV, including Airplay
• DStv Explora – make sure you connect it to the internet. Showmax Pro is not supported on the DStv Explora.
• Gaming consoles: Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 (South Africa only). Showmax Pro is currently not supported on any gaming consoles.
• Smart TVs, including:
  • Samsung Smart TVs (2012 and later)
  • Tizen Smart TVs (2015 and later)
  • LG NetCast Smart TVs (2012 to 2014)
  • LG WebOS Smart TVs (2014 and later)

(Due to manufacturer differences, the application may not work on all devices. Available devices may differ between countries.)

How to Sign Up on Showmax

Sign up to Showmax with your credit or debit card and get 14 days of access to the entire catalogue for free. The free trial is not compatible with live sport, so Showmax Pro does unfortunately not have a free trial.

1. Go to showmax.com, sign up with your email address and create a password.
2. Choose cheque or credit card as your payment method. If you cancel within the 14-day free trial, nothing will be deducted off your card.
3. Stream your favourite shows for free for 14 days.
4. Once your trial has expired, your card will be charged each a month for continued access to Showmax. (There is no contract and there are no penalties for cancelling at any time.)

How to Add Showmax to your DStv account

DStv customers can opt to pay for Showmax as part of their monthly DStv bill. If you’re a DStv Premium subscriber in South Africa, Kenya or Nigeria, there’s no cost for Showmax once you’ve added it to your DStv account.

For DStv Premium subscribers

1. Visit the DStv self-service website.
2. Sign in with your Connect ID.
3. Select My Products.
4. Choose the DStv Premium package.
5. Click Add Showmax on the Showmax banner.
6. Accept the quotation.

Once you’ve activated Showmax on the DStv Self Service website, you’ll be redirected to the Showmax website to sign up or sign in and start watching.

For DStv subscribers on other packages

DStv Compact and Compact Plus customers in certain countries qualify for a 50% Showmax discount, whereas DStv customers on Family, Access and Easyview have the option to add Showmax to their DStv bill, but pay the standard Showmax price.

1. Visit the DStv self-service website.
2. Sign in with your Connect ID.
3. Select My Products.
4. Choose a DStv package.
5. Click Link Showmax on the Showmax banner.
6. Accept the quotation.
7. Click Add Showmax to proceed.

Once you’ve activated Showmax on the DStv Self Service website, you’ll receive confirmation that you’ve been successful. Then you’ll be redirected to the Showmax website to sign up or sign in and start watching.

What if I am already a Showmax subscriber?

1. Sign in to the Showmax website.
2. Select My Account.
3. Manage Subscription.
4. Add to DStv.

And that’s it. Now you will get unlimited, free access to the entire Showmax catalogue. There are currently no special deals for Showmax Pro for DStv subscribers.
