Job Title: Estate Mechanic (Enon Estate / Richmond Area)
Introduction
NCT is a vibrant Forestry company based in KZN, with district offices throughout the province and further afield and manufacturing facilities in Durban and Richards Bay. An exciting position has opened for an organised and qualified Diesel Mechanic who would plan, schedule and manage the preventative maintenance of all Estate Vehicles, Machines, and Equipment. The Estate Mechanic will also manage the repair of all vehicles and equipment in the field due to unexpected breakdowns.
This role is based on our Enon Estate in the Richmond area of KZN. The successful candidate will find a residence in Richmond or Byrne.
Duties & Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance of Vehicles and Equipment Compile and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance plan for all vehicles and equipment at the workplace | Liaise with the Estate Manager daily, weekly and monthly with regards to changes to the preventative maintenance program | Plan ahead and schedule major services in collaboration with the Estate Manager and other users of the vehicles and equipment | Plan ahead and schedule of analytical inspections and component replacements | Plan ahead and schedule work that will need doing in the near future, e.g. cutting edges, welding etc | The preventative maintenance program must comply with the Co-op and factory specifications | Ensuring correct spares are ordered and that the correct spares arrive on time | Ensure service levels are adhered to as per factory specifications Breakdowns and in the field repairs Perform repairs (mechanical or otherwise) as required and instructed | Weld, repair cracks on all materials Training and People Management Delegate tasks to the assistant mechanic and the workshop assistant | Assist in training of machine operators and drivers; assess competency Administrative Functions Complete monthly returns and keep accurate records of all costs / spending | Assist with technical back-up on all equipment utilised in plantation management | Ensure that a detailed cost and history is maintained for all equipment, by obtaining quotations and authorisation for parts and services and keeping a record of all costs incurred per piece of equipment. General Do Fire stand-by when required | Liaise with the Technical Manager on a regular basis with regards to equipment maintenance | Take control of tools/assets / be responsible for all NCT tools and equipment | Ensure that workshop and storerooms are clean and tidy | Ad hoc maintenance and repair of forestry equipment such as fire pumps, chainsaws, brush cutters, etc | Ownership of daily checklists, do wear check samples | Supply own tools, all specialized tools supplied by NCT.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications Qualified trade test as Diesel Mechanic | Suitable technical tertiary qualification
Prior training required Firefighting | Heavy vehicle driver’s license with PDP | Light vehicle driver’s license
Skills required Computer literacy: MS 365 (Outlook, Word and Excel)
Job-specific technical skills Hydraulics, pneumatics and electronic systems.
Personal attributes Remote living, good self-manager, organised.
Prior experience 8 – 10 years, agricultural equipment, heavy diesel equipment, Bell / Dezzi / New Holland / John Deere / Massey Fergusson / Cat Grader / TLB’s / JCB
Language Skills English (speak, read, write) | Preferably isiZulu (conversant)
Working conditions Stay and live close to the Estate (Richmond or Byrne). Travel to breakdowns and to service providers/suppliers where necessary.
