Job Title: Privacy Legal Counsel Specialist – 6 Months Contract
Introduction
Applications are now open for the position of Privacy and Data Legal Counsel Specialist. Duties will include conducting privacy impact assessments of new processes, products and systems to be launched; assessing existing processes, products or assets to ensure that all critical and high new business risks have been identified and mitigated before any product, service, promotion or campaign is launched; verifying that privacy impact assessments have been conducted for all processing activities; and assisting with the Privacy Supplier Onboarding Process and ensure that Supplier Inventories are created and relevant processing activities assessed.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducting privacy impact assessments of new processes, products and systems to be launched.
- Assessing existing processes, products or assets to ensure that all critical and high new business risks have been identified and mitigated before any product, service, promotion or campaign is launched.
- Verifying that privacy impact assessments have been conducted for all processing activities.
- Assisting with the Privacy Supplier Onboarding Process and ensure that Supplier Inventories are created and relevant processing activities assessed.
- Ensuring that all third party’s processing Personal Information are identified and Data Processing Agreements are initiated and maintain an up to date.
- Monitoring regulatory/legislative developments and trends/patterns and assisting with updates to company policies, processes and procedures as required.
- Building awareness of and delivering training to business teams on personal information protection and privacy issues.
- Assisting with maintaining the regulatory interaction register and monitor closure of regulatory and customer complaints.
- Supporting the privacy operations and frontline teams in responding to enquiries relating to the exercise of data protection individual rights.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- A legal degree or NQF 7 equivalent.
- Additional professional relevant certification will be an advantage such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPT, or CIPM from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is essential, with exposure to Legal, Risk, and Compliance.
- Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in data protection impact assessments and contract negotiation.
