South32Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) invites qualifying students to apply for Bursary Programme 2023 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies in “Occupations of High Demand” – specifically for studies within the following fields, at the following institutions:

The bursary will provide full cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, textbooks, study materials, calculator, accommodation, meals, and a living allowance.

Bursary recipients will also receive the following non-academic student support: life skills training, tutorial support, life support, social support, admin support, project manager, staff mentors, and medical support when required.

The total value of the bursary award will vary depending on the institution, with the average full cost of study being R166 668.00 per student.

Bursary recipients are selected based on the following:

  • A household means test is conducted for all students applying
  • Academic achievement and acceptance into one of the approved institutions, toward an approved qualification
  • National Benchmarking Test (NBT) for some institutions (academic and behavioral strength)
  • Matric results
  • Funder constraints (that meet individual funder objectives)

Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must have been accepted to study towards an undergraduate qualification, in one of the fields listed above, for the 2023 academic year
  • You must be registered to study at one of the following public tertiary institutions for the 2023 academic year: the University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Nelson Mandela University, Walter Sisulu University, University of Venda, Tshwane University of Technology or Central University of Technology
  • You must be starting your first degree in the 2023 academic year
  • You must have a family household income NOT more than R600 000 per annum
  • You must be in financial need and require funding for your studies
  • You must NOT be in receipt of any other study funding (including NSFAS)

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online at ISFAP Bursary Application 2023

Applicants will be required to Register an account before they can Log in and apply.

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results and Matric’s latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric final results/ certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Proof of household proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of any grants or pension if applicable) (certified copy)
  • ISFAP Funding Application Consent Form (.pdf) – completed by the applicant and household contributors (certified copy)

NOTES ABOUT THE ISFAP BURSARY

  • ISFAP does not replace NSFAS – ISFAP caters to students who do not qualify for NSFAS as they are within the “Missing Middle” (they have a family household income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum).
  • ISFAP receives funding from various platforms, including non-profit organizations, government institutions, development finance institutions, foundations and the private sector, local and international donors, and private individuals.
  • At the moment, ISFAP is only partnered with the above public institutions, however, they will partner with all 26 Public Universities in South Africa, in due course.
  • ISFAP awards funding for studies towards occupations in high demand/ fields deemed scarce skills, that have been identified as critical to South Africa’s economic development.
