Distell invites unemployed youth to apply for the Learnership Programme 2022

Applications are invited for the above-mentioned leadership to be based at Paarl Cluster, Nederburg. The successful applicant will report to the Packaging Unit Manager.

The learnership entails the following outcomes:

• Demonstrating an understanding of basic machine operations in a manufacturing and or packaging environment
• Demonstrating an understanding of the concept of Microbiology in a food-handling environment
• Monitoring critical control points (CCP) as an integral part of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system
• Performing quality control practices in a food or sensitive consumer product operation
• Competence in performing operations in the following processes on an automated food & beverage packaging line:
• Washing
• Filling
• Sealing
• Labeling
• Palletizing
• Depalletizing
• Performing first-line maintenance
• Applying problem-solving techniques
• Demonstrating effective communication skills and the ability to interpret and use information
• Demonstrating basic mathematical literacy

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:

• Minimum qualification of Grade 12 or relevant N qualifications
• Preference will be given to applicants with a tertiary qualification in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
• Relevant experience within a production/high-speed packaging environment would be advantageous
• Knowledge of safe working procedures
• Display a strong ability to act, initiate, and focus on technical/mechanical tasks
• Proven verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to function independently and under pressure
• Ability to cope with the inherent physical demands of the learnership
• Must be willing and able to work shifts and overtime as part of workplace training as and/or when required

Additional requirements:

• Short-listed candidates will undergo a formal assessment
• Candidates will be required to work shifts/extended hours as and/or when the need arises
• Successful candidates will be subjected to a medical evaluation
