Job Title: Workshop Foreman – Earthmoving Plant
Introduction
A position has become available for an Earthmoving Plant Workshop Foreman to join our dynamic technical team at our Plant Division based in Midrand. The incumbent will be working on Sites within South Africa as well as across borders as and when required to do so.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Incumbent will take full control and responsibility for the workshop equipment and staff and ensures the smooth running of the workshop.
- Ensure that maintenance, services, and repairs are done according to specifications to achieve optimal performance of plant equipment and machinery.
- Ensure all safety procedures and environmental regulations are followed according to policies laid out in the Plant SHE manuals
- Discusses performance of mechanical support with Site Agents and addresses any related issues
- Ensure major component replacement history sheets are completed on all major component replacements.
- Monitor and ensure that planned maintenance is carried out as per the service schedules.
- Ensure that breakdowns are signed off and agreed upon on a daily basis
- Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings as well as other general work-related meetings with the workshop team.
- Deal with conflict amongst workshop staff and ensures that conflict is resolved in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Ensure that documents and records are filed and kept in an orderly manner for accurate and timeous retrieval
- Investigate and report all incidents and accidents on site and escalate them to the Plant Manager where necessary.
- Ensures that all workshop tasks are carried out according to specifications.
- Monitor staff work attendance and ensure that timesheets are completed accordingly and timeously.
- Identifying and responding to safety hazards in the workshop.
- Assist the Plant manager with ledgers and managing the workshop finances.
- Must be willing to work in remote areas far away from home or away from a civilized environment.
- Must be willing to work long hours as and when required to do so
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Trade tested and Red Seal Diesel Mechanic
- N4 Certificate
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 15 years post-trade test experience in the maintenance and repairs of construction earthmoving equipment; specializing in mechanical diagnosis and repairs.
- Ability to manage your own team and work under pressure.
- Ability to motivate and encourage staff to perform optimally.
- Conversant in preventative maintenance programs e.g. Wearcheck.
- Conversant with Caterpillar diagnostic equipment, SIS, ET, Star Diagnostics, Vision link, Caretrack, and Fleetmatic.
- Experienced in my safety requirements and devices
- Supervisory Experience
- Must be computer literate
- Covid-19 Vaccinated
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- A self-motivated and highly capable technical person with strong leadership skills and a specialist in the maintenance and repairs of construction earthmoving equipment.
- Must have basic knowledge of financial responsibilities.
- Must have excellent communication skills, i.e. face-to-face communication, email, and phone mannerism.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of mechanics, mechanical drivers & gearboxes, and hydraulics.
- Meticulous in achieving high standards, enthusiastic, and determined when facing new challenges.
- Must be able to perform mechanical work him/herself to assist in the workshop when the need arises.
- Must have leadership skills
- Must also be willing to assist with skills development for the Site-workshop staff.
