How to Apply to the University of the Free State
The University of the Free State 2023 application can be done in either of two ways: hardcopy or online.
NOTE: Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible in the application cycle. Application opens on 1st March and closes at the end of May for medical programmes (exception of nursing).
Applications for programmes such as quantity surveying, architecture, construction management, and nursing close by the end of July.
Applications for all other programs close at the end of September with the exception of Fine Arts programmes which close at the beginning of November.

University of the Free State Online Application
You may apply online. In order to apply online you will need a working email address and a functional cell phone number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number.
You also need scanned copies (not photographs) of your identity documents/passport and grade 11 final results. Also, provide the latest academic transcript and certificate of conduct if you are transferring from another tertiary institution.
Once you’ve completed the online application, you don’t need to send a hardcopy application. Hardcopy application is available on campus for those who don’t have access to an internet connection.
How to Apply Online to the University of the Free State
UFS has an only online application form for undergraduate and postgraduate applicants. You can follow the “APPLY NOW” link below to access the online application portal. Your online application process can be completed over a period of time. However, it must be completed before the application closing date.
The University of the Free State Hardcopy Application
The University of Free State paper application forms are available on campus. However, there are two different application forms; one for undergraduate applicants and the other for postgraduates.
Ensure all relevant supporting documents are attached before sending off your application form. There is no application fee for the University of the Free State admissions.
