OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:
 
As a Microsoft SQL Database Administrator (DBA), you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the Microsoft SQL Server databases for our client. One of your goals will be to ensure the performance, availability, and security of the SQL databases. You will work closely with the infrastructure teams to design, implement, and optimize database solutions that meet the organization’s needs. Additionally, you will monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve any database-related issues to ensure smooth operations.Operational support – Database Management
 

• Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server software and related components
• Create and maintain SQL databases, tables, views, stored procedures, and functions
• Ensure data integrity, security, and performance through proper backup and recovery strategies
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries for improved efficiency
• Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data

Performance Tuning and Optimization
 

• Analyze and optimize SQL queries and database structures to enhance system performance
• Identify and resolve performance issues, such as slow-running queries or excessive resource usage
• Conduct regular performance tuning, index optimization, and database defragmentation activities
• Monitor and analyze database performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement

  Monitor Servers/Databases:
 

• Confirm that All SQL servers/Databases are up and running successfully
• Monitor all applications using SQL database and ensure that it is successfully running using Servicedesk and calls from system owners and vendors
• Ensure that all systems sharing data do so according to approved methods, currently via the Integration hub or by request on a direct integration
• Ensure that all integration is running successfully, timeously and accurately
• Receive and action alerts from data integrated systems
• Review both SQL Server logs action any anomalies accordingly

FORMAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 

• Matric
• MCSDBA (old school SQL or equivalent)

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Diploma Data metrix or equivalent

JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
 

• A thorough knowledge of the operation of all applications and systems is of utmost importance to maintain this integration integrity and problem solving.
