Job Title: Audio Operations Manager
Main Objectives
MAIN OBJECTIVES
- Control the Audio Division’s off-site operations, personnel, and logistics, in the Johannesburg branch, maintaining Gearhouse quality and service standards.
- Manage Audio Workshop and Equipment Stores areas, personnel, and activities at the Johannesburg branch through the Workshop Manager/Supervisor.
- Control costs within the Audio division.
- Execute the technical aspects of a Live Event within his/her field of expertise in the capacity of Senior Sound Engineer according to production standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
OFF-SITE
- Handle quotation inquiries for the Audio division and supply comprehensive specifications (including crew, stagehands, transport, travel, equipment sub-hires, and miscellaneous extras) for entry into Hiretrack.
- Attend or delegate Site Inspections to determine exact job requirements.
- Plan and schedule confirmed Audio jobs.
- Substitute and reallocate equipment to fill shortfalls on confirmed quotations.
- Attend weekly Operations meetings to finalize logistics of upcoming jobs with all Operations personnel and Administration.
- Assign/Book Audio crewmembers to individual jobs.
- Follow up all necessary job-related bookings with the relevant persons, monitoring cost-of-sales expenditure and authorizing orders.
- Brief crewmembers on upcoming confirmed jobs.
- Oversee the planning and preparation of confirmed jobs by the relevant technicians/Project Managers for the Audio Division.
- Ensure that Audio Operations staff follow the procedures of the correct system regarding scanning, scheduling, and the input of maintenance service records in Hiretrack, etc.
ON-SITE
- Communicate with Project Managers and visit event sites regularly to check that service and delivery is of a consistently high standard.
AS THE SENIOR SOUND ENGINEER
- Manage the Audio team on-site ensuring that they execute their duties efficiently, conduct themselves appropriately on-site, and adhere to dress codes and safety standards.
- Serve as liaison between Audio crew members and the client or Project Manager
- Monitor and assist with the Audio installation according to drawings, plans and instructions.
- Install complex Audio systems utilizing thorough systems knowledge.
- Operate Audio equipment for complex shows as necessary for rehearsals or set-up requirements as well as the actual event.
- Balance (mix) the audio elements of a live event (demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the mixing desk and associated outboard equipment) so as to optimize sound quality and add a creative element to the event.
- Test defective equipment to determine the cause of malfunction or failure (troubleshoot) and replace or repair as required.
- Perform advanced diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs of equipment within his/her capabilities.
- Solve any on-site problems within the scope of his/her capabilities.
- Assume responsibility for the due care of personal tools and company equipment/property by Audio crew members.
- Complete and hand in the Job report for each job if he/she is the designated senior person.
- Take precautionary measures to protect third-party equipment/property.
WORKSHOP
- Oversee Workshop functions and personnel through the Workshop Manager/Supervisor, ensuring equipment is well-maintained and fully operational at all times.
- Manage maintenance and servicing costs in the Audio division.
HIRE STOCK
- Conduct stock takes of equipment and resolve stock count discrepancies for the Audio equipment according to Gearhouse procedure.
- Monitor the Audio equipment usage, motivating for sufficient and optimal stock holding for market requirements.
PERSONNEL
- Promote safe working standards for all staff both on Gearhouse premises and on-site.
- Encourage and participate in the training and education of technicians and staff members in the Audio Division.
- Check and authorize time sheets/Leave Forms for the Audio division.
- Monitor the performance of Operations personnel and maintain morale within the Audio division.
- Hold meetings with staff in the division to discuss problems/suggestions.
FINANCIAL
- Prepare and submit CAPEX budgets for the Audio division.
- Manage operational costs within the Audio division.
GENERAL
- Ensure that industry-related legislation which impacts on the company is adhered to.
- Assist management with any other duties as may be required.
