Job Title: Legal Officer

Introduction

Our client in the Gaming Industry has an opportunity for a Legal Officer to join their team.

The role is a Fixed Term Contract of Employment for 2 years.

Duties & Responsibilities

To assist the Head of Legal with administrative law as well as legal risk issues that may arise at the company. To conduct research and ensure that employment and commercial contracts are compliant with the relevant legislation.

Administrative Law:

  • Use on-line computer-based information systems for legal research to gather and analyse data.
  • Conduct extensive legal research to analyse and verify accuracy of citations, and correct erroneous or incomplete citations.
  • Perform legal research by examining all references in briefs and other memoranda.
  • Analyse and identify legal issues in all cases.
  • Carry out general background checks on suppliers and/or potential service provider
  • Draft documents such as mortgages, separation agreements, sale agreements, trust agreements and other types of contracts which may apply to the organisation.
  • Carry out investigations in relation to a case in order to authenticate or validate information.
  • Assist with the development of whistle blower protection policies and programs that encourage managers, employees, retailers or players/customers to report suspected fraud, cheating or other improprieties without fear of retaliation.
  • Oversee the development of contract terms and

conditions for all parts of the Zamani business including vendor and employment contracts.

Legal Risk:

  • Review and provide legal advice on tender documents.
  • Review ongoing cases and advise management accordingly.
  • Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken.
  • Provide risk management advice to management especially on contract management.
  • Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff.
  • Negotiating, drafting and authorising of contracts and other legal documents
  • Provision of day-to-day legal, and general, advice and opinions
  • Resolving of disputes / litigious matters
  • Co-ordination and running of formal litigation
  • Performing coordinating control function across the business
  • Interpreting and commenting on draft legislation affecting the Company
  • Serving in various forums representing the Company
  • Handling of consumer/customer disputes when serious, or litigation contemplated
  • Handling of matters referred to the regulator
  • Protection of the group’s intellectual property
  • Special Tasks requested by Company Secretary or any Director

Scholarship Administration Foundation:

  • Manage queries from students related to any

financial or any other issues related to the scholarship foundation.

Addresses Proposals from the Public:

  • When any member of the public sends an idea, manage the process and engages with the public.
  • This process involves three department namely Customer relations ( monitors the proposals and will forward the concept to legal), legal ( preparing NDA’s & letters for un/successful proposals and the Chief Lottery Directors office which makes the decision as whether a concept

is viable or not.

Desired Experience & Qualification

NQF Level:

  • NQF Level 7: Graduate Degree + Qualifications Required :
  • BA Law, BCOM Law or LLB from respectable University
  • Admission as an Attorney Qualifications Preferred:
  • Post graduate degree or diploma in Legal, compliance and/or risk management

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ post-article experience either practicing law or in the business environment/in-house legal counsel
  • Experience in the drafting, review, negotiation and re-negotiation of cross- border, corporate and commercial transactions
  • Negotiating, drafting and authorising of contracts and other legal documents

Experience Preferred:

  • 5 years + in compliance, risk, and legal

management role within lottery or gaming industry
